Three Years Old... How is this possible?

I haven't blogged in a long time because life is busy. I have a 5 month old now and a 3 year old and life goes fast and is busy. But I realized that I need to write down the funny and interesting things Eli is doing now. I can't believe how much he grows daily and this fall, he will be attending preschool(what?). He is 38 inches tall and 32 lbs. He hasn't gained much weight, but he is such a picky eater! But the doctor said he is healthy! :)
He loves to sing songs. For awhile, he would sing Jesus Loves you, but only the second verse(the one mom doesn't know). He loves to sing/hum theme songs: Duck Tales, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Imperial Death March, Chip and Dales, ect. But he gets stuck on a phrase and says it over and over until someone moves him on!
His ideas and things he says has his daddy and I in stitches sometimes. Travis shaved his beard last night and Eli told him that he looked like mommy and he exclaimed that Daddy had lips! LOL! On the way to Virginia, he asked to play hide-n-seek, in the car! He will say " 'member mom?" when he is reminding me of something. or "That's the rules!" He likes to try to negotiate things, like we tell him he has to eat 3 bites, and he will say, "no 2. See I have 2 fingers up." He says "Sorry" whenever we admonish him. I have no idea where he got that from. I need to remember to write down some of the funny things Eli says! He says such funny things!!
He loves to play Angry Birds and is obsessed! He will play this with his blocks for hours! He also is getting into pretend play with his Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles figures and his superheros. He likes to make them battle. He loves to cook for me and bring me random food, includes waffles with cars. He loves his iPad and will try do things to get to play iPad. He is attached to technology, more than I like to admit. It started with letting him play the iPad if he used the potty as a reward. He still enjoys books.
He is almost potty trained, he still has accidents, especially when he is too"busy" to stop playing and number 2 is still hit or miss. He can count up to 13 by himself. He can also count objects one by one up to 13. He is starting to recognize words, like his name, stop. He can text Dad and Eli. He will text those words over and over to people. It's cute. He even wrote his name by himself once. He constantly wants to know what things say and how things are spelled.
He is growing and changing so fast. I can't believe it! I love how much he is becoming his own little person. I think he is going to be a class clown! He is pretty funny and loves to make others laugh! I am excited to see what God has in store for him! :)

His birth story.... 5 weeks late

I feel the need to write his birth story out, even though it's way late. It's hard to keep up with the blog with a newborn and almost 3 year old!
So, it all started Friday January 29th. I started to get contractions Friday night. But they were way irregular. I had them for a couple hours and then went to bed and they were gone. I lost hope. I was four whole days late. This was after everyone said he was going to come early. They even thought a New Years Day baby. Nope. He was 4 days late as of Friday. I had lost hope that he was going to even come at all!
Saturday morning, I had contractions again. They were irregular. They were anywhere between 15-8 minutes apart. I figured that they would fizzle out as well. I didn't want to lay around all day and I had a 5$ reward coupon for Kohls that needed to be used. We decided to head out to go to Target, Kohls, and lunch. I had contractions on and off all morning. Eli on the way up sang his made up song, "I go to Target, I go to Target, I go to Target..." He is a boy after his mama's heart. We went to Kohls and I ended up getting pants for Eli for 50 cents... wahoo!
We went to Texas Roadhouse. Eli was struggling in the restaurant and I was having some real contractions, so we decided to head home. Eli was upset that we didn't end up at Target. We got home and put him to bed for a nap. Travis and I laid in bed. I wanted a nap, but Travis started an episode of Duck Dynasty. I got sucked in and I was having contractions.
Around 3pm, they were 7-8 minutes apart. Around 4pm, I was in pain! They were about 5 minutes apart. I called the midwives and they said, "Eat dinner, see you in an hour or  two." I was in pain and didn't feel like eating, but I ate a bagel. My mother-in-law came to watch Eli as we headed in. We got to the hospital around 5 pm. I was already 7 cm and paperthin! Holy cow!!! It was go time! I got an epidural around 6pm. It felt so good. Again, It only took on one side. My left leg went completely numb and I could feel contractions on the right. So, weird! I went to 8cm to 9cm pretty fast. Around 10 pm, I was 10 cm and ready to push soon. My midwife came in and sat in a chair doing crocheting. LOL! She was so calm. Travis sat next to me as I pushed on every contraction to move baby down. It wasn't bad. My water hadn't broke yet. Sometime around 10:30(I think), the midwife decided to break my water with her finger because it was bulging. It hurt so bad after that. I don't think my epidural worked all the way down. I pushed and pushed. I actually screamed, which I didn't do with Eli. It was rough. Then he came at 11:13pm. Thank you God! He was beautiful. He was 9 pounds, 15 ounces and 22 inches long. No wonder why it hurt! It was worth it.

He was immediately placed on my chest. We had wonderful skin-to-skin. They delayed clamping of the umbilical cord too! We had an amazing time bonding, just the three of us.
Then it got late. I eventually got a shower and felt much better. They did all the necessary things for the baby and I. Travis headed home about 2am... Late night! I didn't get much sleep. Between the nurse for Benjamin and my nurse. We were woken every hour. They took Benjamin for about 2 hours, so I could get some sleep. I woke up at 6am for the day. The next day, Eli came to visit! We wasn't impressed or really paid attention to Benjamin. I don't think he knew what to think. I missed Eli. I can't believe how much I missed him. That night was rough too! I couldn't wait to go home and be a family of 4!

We love our family. I am in love with my boys and watching them grow. <3 I thank God that he entrusted these two beautiful and wonderful boys to me.

Almost 36 weeks

Wow.... I am about a month away from my due date. It's so crazy that I will have a little man in my arms. I am so excited to have a little one again. I'm excited for Eli to have a baby brother. I am so excited for our family! We will have so many new changes, adventures, and so much love.
I know that it's going to be a rough transition for us all, but especially Eli. I can't lie, I am worried about his little heart. I know it's going to be hard for him. He is a momma's boy and wants mommy a lot. It's going to be hard for me as I know I will want to help with both boys, but won't be able to. It's going to be rough for both Travis and I getting used to caring for two boys and not just one, BUT I know that we can do it and that once we get over the initial rough transition, that we will grow together as a family and grow closer. My heart is going to grow so big and Eli is going to love having a little brother to grow up with! Travis is going to love having two boys!
How am I doing? I'm so over being pregnant. I've had a rough time this second time around. I am having a lot of braxton hicks. It's getting hard to go shopping or walk a lot. I don't remember being this way with Eli. Even when I rest, I still get braxton hicks. I had a couple bad ones this past couple of days. I'm exhausted. I slept most of Christmas and a lot yesterday. I think it's because I wasn't feeling well and Eli kept me up from him being sick on Christmas night. I'm having a lot of back/hip pain, but that is to be expected, especially chasing a 2 year old and getting on the floor with him. Today, I did get a wind and got a lot done. I'm exhausted now, though. His movements are starting to sting a little, he doesn't have a lot of space to move now! He likes to bounce on my bladder(fun times) and sometimes hits a nerve. But I wouldn't trade it for anything. I'm so excited to be his momma and am blessed by God to be able to have another boy.
I have these moments when I think back on my journey. There was a time I didn't think I was going to have one baby. It took us 20 months to get pregnant with Eli and another 11 to get pregnant with baby boy. I feel incredibly blessed. I refer to Eli as my miracle # 1 and baby boy, miracle # 2. I truly believe they are miracles. I know that we are blessed. Not everyone is able to get pregnant just once, but twice. I am so thankful for all my friends and family that prayed for me and listened to me cry. I'm thankful for a God that hears my prayers(and those of friends and family) and answers them. I pray (BUT know) that he will be with me as a continue this journey to birth and through raising these boys to know and honor him!
Random thought: When Eli was about 9 months? I went to the park. I was putting him in the car and a little boy looked at me and said, "what about your other boy?" I had to explain that I only had one boy. I thought it was strange and a little funny at that time. Looking back, I feel like it was a sign. <3

♫♫ Songs, Silliness, and Such ♫♫

♫♫ Eli has just started picking up songs in the past month or so. It's so cute. He loves the theme songs to his favorite shows. Sometimes, I think he only watches them to listen to the songs. He knows Mickey Mouse, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Winnie the Pooh, Duck Tales, Chip and Dale's Rescue Rangers, and Leap Frog theme songs. He likes to sing Frosty the Snowman and the wheels on the bus songs. He also loves to sing along to Travis' music and requests them: "Courtesy Call" by Thousand Foot Krutch (He calls it "Eeyore Song") and "My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark" by Fall Out Boy(which he calls the Ooooo Song). He requests these songs in the car immediately upon starting the car. It was cute at first, but now it's gotten a little old. Eli singing is the cutest thing. It makes me smile and melts my heart. I need to get learn church songs, but when I play it, he says "different song." He wants more hard rock songs. ♫♫
He is also growing in his silliness. He loves to be silly and make anyone laugh. I have a feeling that he will be a class clown and expect to get teacher phone calls. LOL. He will "run" into things and fall over. He thinks it's hilarious! He also wants us to throw pillows or soft balls at him, so he can fall over. He tries to make us laugh and be silly daily. It's adorable.
He has also gotten super attached to his huge green frog. He has to have it every night when he goes to sleep and takes naps. He usually carries it out every morning to the living room and cuddles with it. Last week, it ended up going to church. It's a good 3 feet long. It also lost all it's stuffing in the middle from him lying on it all the time. It's super cute.
I was starting to get worried because he is so skinny. I took him for his flu shot and asked the doctor. Eli grew 2.5 inches tall and only gained 2 pounds. I was worried because he doesn't eat much. He'll eat here and there and then occasionally he'll eat a lot in a day.  The doctor told me not to worry. He explained that Eli gained percentiles since his 2 year appointment. I guess I just don't see it since I see him everyday. As long as he is healthy, I feel better about it, which he is!
He is growing so much and learning so much. It's a joy to see him grow and learn. <3 I'm excited to see what the future holds.

Almost 30 weeks... OMG..

I can't believe that I am almost 30 weeks. In 10 weeks, we will meet my baby boy. I'm so excited! I'm excited to hold and cuddle a newborn, it's been about 2.5 years since I had a tiny babe in my arms. I'm excited to see Eli become a big brother. I think it will take some adjustment, but Eli is going to go crazy for a little brother! He seems to like babies.
I do feel guilty about the lack of preparation for him. This baby boy won't have a nursery really. He is staying in our room and when he is big enough, he'll share a room with Eli. So, I feel like I haven't really prepared for him. I remember searching and planning the perfect nursery with Eli. This little boy is getting nothing. When we build our house, I'll get to plan and create a perfect room for each of the boys. But for now, it's just a bassinet in our room. I feel like he is getting the shaft. We did so much to prepare for Eli, a big baby shower, prepared a nursery and it had to be perfect, and focused a lot on getting ready. I don't know if it's because we know what to expect and don't feel as if we need to prepare as much or we are so busy with Eli/work/school/holidays that we haven't had time to think about it. One thing I do know is that I am so excited for him to be here and he is loved more than he knows already. I talk to him, Eli talks to him. I smile every time I feel him move. We are super excited and happy to become a family of four!
This pregnancy is a lot different than Eli's was. I feel like it's more uncomfortable and can be more painful than Eli's. I am having a rough time at school. Being a teacher, I'm on my feet all day and there isn't much time to rest. If I have a break, I'm copying papers, taking work to kids in other rooms, and catching up with other teachers about ways to help students. I've been grateful for teachers willing to cover my room occasionally so I can pee. I'm making it work, but boy, am I exhausted at the end of the day! Even though, it's been a little rough, it's definitely worth it. I am looking forward to meeting him.

My little empathic boy

Everyday Eli amazes me with what he picks up and says. He is now saying 4-5 word sentences. It's crazy to me. I look at him sometimes and think, "wow, he grew inside me. He was once just a bunch of cells. I helped create him and then helped him grow." Now, he is an energetic 2 year old.
I also feel a great responsibility. God gave me this blessing to teach, mold, and help grow. I need to help shape him into an amazing man. One day, he'll grow up and move out(which at this point makes this mama very sad to think about). My responsibility is to help him grow into the man God created him to be. It's so hard to think about him being a man. But I truly believe that you need to start from the beginning to help them grow into a responsible and respectful person.
Proverbs 22:6 New Living Translation (NLT)
"Direct your children onto the right path, and when they are older, they will not leave it."
Eli has been saying some amazing things. One day we stopped to get gas at a gas station. Eli suddenly pipes up in the backseat that the numbers were broken. It took away to realize he was talking about the price and gallon numbers climbing in the gas pump. He was really concerned about them. The same day he saw clouds in the sky and said, "Oh, No! A storm is coming." I think it's from a Winnie the Pooh episode. It's amazing what he can pick up and apply. I was upset the other day and he tried to console me, "It's okay, mommy." He is so emphatic and sweet. He also gets into trouble for being too rough when playing with me and stepping on my belly. He'll get admonished and he'll say, "sorry, baby." He knows when he has made a bad choice and he is in trouble. He gets upset and shows remorse. He has been showing so many emotions lately.

25 Weeks and a quick trip to L & D

I am finding so much joy with this baby. It's been crazy at work and I haven't been able to keep up with a weekly blog, not to mention a cute 2 year old! I keep thinking about how much life is going to change in 4 months! Eli is going to be a big brother and we will be a family of four. It crazy to think of the changes we will be going through.
I had a midwife appointment on Tuesday and she seemed concerned with the amount of braxton hicks I was having a day and how I was feeling. She had ordered more water intake and trying to get off my feet as much as possible. She asked about reduction of hours or getting off my feet at work, but as a teacher, it's just not possible. She told me to call if it got worse. She did say that she wanted me to be able to work until I'm due, so I'm hoping that doesn't mean she was thinking I may need bed rest in the future.
So, I ended up calling last night. I had a couple stressful days at work and my belly had been tight and crampy all day. I came home and rested and I thought it was better. I got up and took a shower and it got super tight and uncomfortable. When I called the midwife, she told me to go in to L & D for a check-up. I went in about 7:30. They hooked me up to monitors for heartbeat and contractions. The nurse said she saw a contraction, but since I didn't seem to have felt it, she wasn't sure if it was a fluke. Baby boy kept kicking the monitors on my belly. He did not like them! It was hilarious, because he would kick so hard that the heartbeat monitor wouldn't stay in place and he would move away from it. The nurse had to readjust it every now and then. They also did a test to that predicts if I'm likely to go into labor within 2 weeks. It came back negative, thank God! They checked me out and everything looked good. They told me to get some rest and recommended that I take a day off today. I finally got home around 10:30. Not how I wanted to spend my night, but I was so glad that everything was fine. My baby boy is healthy and everything was good.
Thank God that everything is going well. I am so excited and blessed to be given a second child. I continuously thank God that he has allowed me to become a mom not once, but twice. I feel blessed and so happy. I am so excited to be a family of four. I worried and cried thinking that I would never be able to have babies and here I am, pregnant with baby number 2!
Jeremiah 29:11New Living Translation (NLT): "For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope."
